A Week of Thanksgiving: My Mother

November 21, 2011 By Erin L. 6 Comments

My friend Andrea over at Lil’Kid Things is hosting a week long series on gratitude and reflection.  Join up!

*******************************************************************

Today (and every day) I am thankful for my mother.

Grandma with baby

She is an angel in human form.

My entire life she has always gone above and beyond.  She gives (sometime too much) of herself.

Without her, I don’t know where I’d be.

As a child, I was encouraged to be whatever I wanted.  As a teen, I was told I would make mistakes but she would help me pick up the pieces. Now as an adult, she gives sound advice on parenting and I find myself often thinking how did she do it?

I am raising two young children with the help of a wonderful husband. There are days I want to pull my hair out.  But I have help.

With a four year old and an 18 month old, my mother found herself suddenly and tragically alone.  Surrounded by friends, but still alone.

But she survived.

I am sure it was tough.  I am sure there were days she wanted to throw in the towel and say “ENOUGH!!”

But here we are…because she persevered.  Because she was who she is.

STRONG.

CONFIDENT.

DETERMINED.

I am lucky she is my mother.  My children are lucky she is their grandmother.

What a gift she’s been to me.

What a loving bond you have with your mother! I bet her love and strength wore off on you too and you just haven’t realized it yet.
