Wait…I’m married??

August 13, 2009 By Erin L. Leave a Comment

Not enough time. Not enough time. Not enough time.
This phrase runs through my head constantly.
I always feel like there isn’t enough time….
– not enough time for my baby
– not enough time to do my job
– not enough time to clean my house
– not enough time to see my friends
– not enough time to spend with my husband

My husband!!!! What a saint that man is.
I don’t know what I would do without him.
Unfortunately, we both have neglected each other at times.
It happens when you have a baby, though we try to be VERY mindful of it.

This past weekend was a first. We left the bug with G-ma and spent the
night in Charlotte after a wedding. It was AWESOME!
We talked, we danced, we drank, we hugged, we kissed!

(I know, I know, you all are making yarfing noises and gagging, but in the spirt of Cartman, I say “screw you guys” This is something I think all parents should think about.)

Even though I see the hubby every day, I still miss him. It’s hard to find time to connect while feeding the baby, bathing the baby, cleaning the kitchen and even the ever glamorous cleaning up after the cats (puke and all.) Oh yeah, that definitely makes me feel romantic! (Or not.) We are very good about sitting down together on the couch every night after the bug is in bed to chat and watch TV…but most of the time, J falls asleep :).

So last weekend was really great. The bug had a fantastic time with his grandmother; she even took him to a party where he was fawned over all night. Huge props to my mom for being the best babysitter on the planet!

Knowing the baby was in good hands, we were able to really enjoy hanging out with our friends, and with each other. It was nice to be able to have a few (or a few more in J’s case!) drinks and not have to worry about being incredibly responsible or worry about having to get up at 4 in the morning. We were able to sleep in, (until 9!!!) had a leisurely brunch and even had our first Ikea experience before heading out of town.

And then what did we do? Rush home to our little man who we were both DYING to see. Amazing how you miss those little boogers. (Of course, he was asleep when we got to mom’s but when he woke up, we got a smile that was HUGE and totally heart warming.)

P.S. Here’s a peek at J letting loose. He woke up on Sunday and turned to me “Did I dance for awhile with one arm?” Um, yes. Yes you did.

Love this post. I think it is SO super important to remember to take time for yourself and with each other, even after kids are on the scene. It certainly makes for a happier, healthier family (IMHP). Wish we could have been with you guys this weekend!
