Now that I’m 40, I’m trying to do things in my life with purpose. I’m trying to be present in each activity – be it with work, my family, friends. It’s so easy to try and multi-task at all times, but I’m trying to really be in each moment.
As the kids are getting older, I’m quickly realizing that I have to be more mindful of my time with them, specifically. With Mr. A being less than a year from the big 1-0, I need to make sure that we find the time to connect and enjoy each other’s company. I worry that soon we’ll be in the days where he won’t want to hang out with me as much, much less let me hug him whenever I want.
The same goes for my little miss. She’s trying to figure out where she fits in the world, and I want to make sure I’m paying attention to her and truly listening during our conversations. It means putting down the phone, getting off the computer and sometimes doing activities that I’m not always interested in. It also means that we play hair salon, fashion show and have epic dance parties. It means smiling so much my face hurts and laughing until I might wet my pants.
I’m also trying to do right by myself. Self-care is so easy to let slip through the cracks, but if I’m not taking care of me, I can’t possibly be the best parent I can be. So I’m trying to get to the gym at least three times a week, grab coffee with friends when I can and take some time to read a book if the moment presents itself. Sometimes that means MAKING the time and saying no to something else, so I can yes to me.
It’s also been a good time to think about what I put in and on my body. I want products that are good for me, and good for the environment. That’s why I’m thrilled to partner up with prAna again. All their clothes are made from 100% organic cotton, hemp and fair trade certified materials. The Shala pants they sent me are super comfortable and perfect for days when I might need to volunteer at school or meet a friend or colleague for lunch. I love the way they look with the Getup Sweater that I just had to have. (I ordered it and it was here in no time!)
I also received the Kornelie Tank, which is going to be perfect for spring. Made from an organic cotton/hemp blend, it’s super breathable for warmer days.
If you’re interested in trying out some prAna items, here’s a 15% off code: MPELS18 The code is good on most items, excluding sale items. The discount is good through March 20.
I received two articles of clothing in exchange for this post. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
Love the pants. It is the purpose of mindfulness to look at all our consumerism. I was not familiar with these brands so a big Thank-you!
Lovely clothing and a lovely Mama. Thanks, Erin.
Kudos to you for being more mindful. I’ve heard good things about Prana clothing, especially since I’m a yoga teacher. But I’ve never ordered any. Will have to check out their website.
I love those pants. I have a cart full of stuff on Prana but I haven’t pushed the button yet. Heading over there now to finish that order. And I completely get what you are saying about the time with your kids. My son is 7 and I feel the same way.
