I spent last week in the whirlwind that is the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas. I was lost in a sea of car seats, strollers, diaper bags and every baby product you can imagine.
The first night I was gone I got a text from my husband that Miss E. had peed on the potty for the very first time EVER. She’s 2 1/2 so this was a pretty momentous occasion. What made it even more awesome is that after my husband showered her with praise, she took a bow. Because of course she did. She is totally my daughter.
Apparently, that’s all it too as all of last week, she did her best to tell everyone when she had to go. So today, we are doing our very first day of no diaper/pull-up except for nap and bed. We’ve had five potty successes and two accidents, which I’m calling a win, since we’re half way through the day.
Potty training is stressful. There’s no way around it. As parents, we have to remember to ask them every 30 or 45 minutes if they need to go or if they want to try. If you forget? You’d better have paper towels, Lysol or the carpet cleaner available.
It’s just going to be one of those weeks for us, as she’s still not sleeping. She was up three times last night, which solidifies why I think we’re done having children. The sleepless nights are brutal. We’re going to hit up the pediatrician tomorrow to talk allergies and possible solutions.
So back to reality, I go.
Send coffee and wine.

One thing that’s helped with Lucy is Hyland’s Calms Forte. It’s herbal, not habit-forming, and she says it’s yummy. (I crush it up in a pill crusher & serve it to her on a spoon.) Of course, Lucy still doesn’t sleep through the night and never has, but at least now she generally only wakes up once a night and she goes back to sleep relatively quickly. I call it “manageable chaos.” 🙂
