So the hubby and I aren’t really Valentiney people. I always get cards (I worked at Hallmark for three years people; it’s TOTAL habit.) but that’s about it. The past few years we’ve made a nice dinner and called it a day. I can admit that on occasion I’ve been a bit sad if he hasn’t had a card for me, but honestly, it’s not who he is and I knew that when I married him. He’ll vacuum instead.
I don’t need Valentines to show my love for my husband and he doesn’t need it for me. We show our love all year long – in the big things and the small things.
I’m a giver. I buy presents. I leave notes. I like a little romance.
The hubby? He’s a doer. He changes the oil in my car. He takes care of the kitty litter.
It works for us.
While we don’t get out much anymore, we find time to snuggle on the couch watching The Office or Community and on the rare occasion, we’ll pull out a board game. (Dude totally whoops up on me in some Scrabble which baffles my brain since I am the more “English” focused one.) We laugh a lot and enjoy our son. Pretty soon, life will be even more chaotic as we meet the Little Miss. But the love will still be there and we’ll still find ways to show it.
So Valentines Day, I sort of think you can shove it. All you really do is make single people feel bad and give those in relationships performance anxiety of all kinds. It’s just another day. Say “I Love You”. Give kisses and hugs…and move along.

Erin – he changes the kitty litter? What a KEEPER!!! Can you send him over here? (My poor hubby. He's actually great. He does all the laundry! But kitty litter is not on his list for sure lol)
Whitney, well I have lucked out since i was pregnant with #1, he never looked back. However, after this one is born, I think I may have to start helping again. π
Love this post! I feel the same way and I have a vacuum-er too π Isn't it nice?
Here, here! π
So true! I wrote a post similar to yours today.
I have no vacuumer but I have a dish doer. What I really want is a laundry doer though. We don't make a fuss out of Valentines day but the kids think it is just fabulous to get all those treats at school!
I have no vacuumer or dish doer but I do have a plumber. He comes in handy sometimes.
I sort of hate all these holidays- Valentine's and Earth Day and Mother's Day- we should be making an effort to show some love every day of the year. Grocery store roses don't cut it.
I don't go all out for Valentine's Day, either. I feel about V-day just about the same way I feel for New Years Resolutions. Shouldn't we be doing these things every day?
Amen sister!!
