I’ve never been good about getting a second opinion. I don’t know why. Obviously, a second opinion can be extremely important, especially when it comes to anything medical or something that’s extremely expensive.
A few weeks ago, we ordered custom drapes for our living room. I fell in love with the pattern, but interior design is not my forte. So I asked my mother AND my neighbor for their opinion. Because a second opinion DOES matter.
The value of getting a second opinion extends to dental work as well as other types of health procedures, including teeth straightening. Having worn braces for almost five years as a teen, I know my mother definitely asked around to make sure we were doing the right thing for my teeth. And since my children will more than likely have to wear them as well, my husband and I will be doing the same.
As with any medical procedure, consider getting a second opinion if you are told you or your child is not a candidate for Invisalign. While not everyone is suitable for a specific treatment, in many cases, there are choices available. Many orthodontic practices are only set up to offer traditional braces and so that is what they will offer. If getting Invisalign treatment for yourself or your child is important, it is recommended to obtain a second opinion from a certified Invisalign provider.
The idea of Invisalign intrigues me because even after wearing traditional braces for so long, my bottom teeth are still a bit crooked. (It could be due to the fact that I didn’t wear my retainer.) Invisalign requires fewer office visits, shorter appointments and no emergency visits for broken brackets or wires.
In a recent poll, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Invisalign, it was found that Americans are more likely to seek second opinion for a major car repair than for a medical procedure or straightening their teeth.

To help bring awareness to the importance of a second opinion, Invisalign is giving away $50 a day in instant win prizes through October 15, plus a chance to win a $1,000 grand prize in their Second Opinion . Enter each day until you’re a winner!
