Confession: Bug is almost 3 and we’ve never taken him to the dentist.
Of course, I haven’t been in a year so I’m sure that’s part of it. I do regularly go every 6 months but after being pregnant and missing an appointment, I just keep forgetting.
But we do make sure to brush in the morning and at night. So when I had the chance to host a MommyParty with Oral-B to talk teeth and watch the new Winnie the Pooh movie, I was all over it.
I felt MUCH better about NOT taking him to the dentist when my one friend said they’d been 4 times (her daughter is 2.5) and her daughter screamed bloody murder the whole time. I think I’m avoiding the inevitable. I have actually mentioned the dentist a few times and he yells at me “NOOO, no dentist.”
When I asked around about the age friends first took kids to the dentist, I got a BROAD range of answers — everywhere from 6 months to 4 years old.
So that’s on our list of things to tackle in early 2012. But for now, we’ll keep on with our brushing using Oral-B’s Stages — perfect age appropriate tooth brushes and toothpaste.
As for the party, it was super fun and the kids loved the movie. Of course, they got distracted by popcorn and toys so they didn’t finish it. Check out the room aftermath (if you look closely you’ll see popcorn kernels all over my floor!)

Have questions? Oral-B offers these helpful tips for caring for your child’s teeth:
– Schedule a dental appointment for your baby at your pediatrician’s recommendation—usually by the first birthday—and every six months thereafter. (I feel a bit guilty as I type this.)
– Help your child brush twice a day with a flouride toothpaste starting at age two, and being flossing as soon as two teeth touch.
– Require children who play sports to wear a mouth guard to protect their smile.
You can follow Oral B on Twitter at @OralB or visit their Facebook page.
Disclosure: I was selected by Mommy Parties to host this party. No monetary compensation was received, but I was provided gift bags for my guests plus the movie. Opinions remain my own.
