Summer may as well be here already. My kindergartner only has a week of school left and they’ll both be in camp the following week. We’ve made a list of activities we’re aiming to complete before summers end and one of the items is Family Movie Night.
It’s one of my favorite things for us to do together. The kids get to stay up past their bedtime, we pop popcorn and curl up on the couch together. If they’re lucky, a lemonade or chocolate milk may be involved.

1. Hook
This is one of my favorite Robin Williams movies. My son is a huge Peter Pan fan and I can’t wait to let him watch this iteration over the summer. (It’ll be a special treat as Miss E is still too young.)
Best for 6 and up. It should be noted that there is some language in the film.
2. The Aristocats
A Disney classic, this movie is quite popular with my four year old daughter. It has a little action, adventure and some hijinx involved.
Best for 3 and up.
3. Muppets Take Manhattan
If you know me, you know I have a strong love of Broadway. So what better way to share that with my kids than to share this fun Muppets movie with them. My kids need to have a better appreciation for Kermit, Fozzie and the g
gang!
Best for 4 and up.
4. The Croods
We are big fans of this movie, which has amazing visuals that Mom and Dad will appreciate. The themes can be a bit heavy (end of the world and potential death) but the overall message is a great one.
See my review here. Best for 5 and up.
5. Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast
We are in a bit of a Tinkerbell phase. We’ve watched nearly every Tinkerbell movie that Disney has made. But this one (along with The Pirate Fairy) is one that even my son will watch. It’s a great story of how things aren’t always what they seem.
Best for 3 and up. Some little ones may be frightened in some scenes but there’s nothing crazy.
As a huge fan and customer of Netflix, I am proud to be a member of the Netflix Stream Team. I received a Netflix subscription and a streaming device in return for posting Netflix updates and reviews. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Great list! We haven’t seen most of these films, and I bet my kids would love them all.
Perfect. This list is just what I needed to kick off summer. Family movie nights are my favorite and we haven’t seen many of these.
Great list! My kids are older but I do have quite a few nieces and nephews and it’s nice to have some family friendly movies in queued up for when they visit
my husband would love to watch any Muppet movie for family movie night!
So grateful for this list right now. With it being only 50 degrees on June 1st, I told the kids it’s a great night for a movie! Great suggestions!
LOVE it! Now with school closing it will be nice for family movie night with the kids or al fresco with our ipad and Netflix.
These 5 movies are among our family’s favorites too! They never seem to get old no matter how many times we watch them! Thank goodness for movies on demand thanks to Netflix streaming!
Our kids LOVE Croods right now. It’s their go-to movie on the iPad when we travel.
