Y’all, kindergarten starts in two weeks. TWO WEEKS! In two weeks, life as I know it will forever change.
I’m trying to prepare as much as I can, although I feel like a lot of it is going to be a learn as I go type situation. But one thing I can get a hold on is LUNCHES.
Yes, I obviously feed my children lunch every day, but there is something about packing a lunch EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. that stresses me out. Part of it is because my children would eat peanut butter and honey/jelly each and every lunch if I would let them. So when it comes to packing a variety for them…well, let’s just say it doesn’t always happen.
Pinterest gives me inspiration, but I need easy, not fancy and intimidating.
Thanks to a recent package I received in the mail from BJ’s Wholesale Club, I got just that – IDEAS THAT EVEN I CAN IMPLEMENT.
Pump Up the Protein – Turkey AND Hummus on a sandwich. Add lettuce, tomato and avocado (if your kid will eat it) and voila, yummy sandwich.
Nutritional Nuts – If your school doesn’t allow peanuts but does allow other nut butters, consider an almond or sun butter sandwich with fresh bananas or strawberries. My son LOVES adding bananas to his honey and peanut butter sandwiches.
Sweet Sandwich – I never would have thought of doing this, but spread cottage cheese across a piece of bread. Then add sliced up pineapple and blueberries. Totally different and unexpected!
A few tips and tricks when you are planning lunches:
Eat with your eyes: Kids eat with their eyes so choose colorful fruits and veggies. And fresh is always best!
Kids love playing with their food: Healthy dips and yogurt are great choices for the lunch box because children love eating with their hands. Give your child individual packs of Sabra Hummus or Wholly Guacamole.
Serving sizes: All types of snacks such pita chips and natural popcorn can be found in easy to send to school small packages. You can also create your own snack bags when purchasing snack items such as organic banana chips and gluten, nut and soy free BJ’s Wholesale Club fresh baked cookies. The traditional Snyders 100 Calorie Mini Pretzels and SkinnyPop Popcorn are always winners with kids.
Know your child’s schedule: Choose snacks that are low in saturated fat and sugar and high in nutrients like low sugar yogurt, nuts, colorful veggies like carrot sticks, red, yellow or green bell pepper strips, fruit salad, cubes of low fat cheese, and guacamole with RW Garcia Organic Tortilla Chips.
BJ’s has all your back to school needs from computer, tablets to book bags and lunch boxes and yummy, healthy lunch and snack options. And don’t forget, BJ’s allows you to use both their coupons AND manufacturer coupons for the same item. SCORE!
