5 ways to use lavender oil

April 17, 2014 By Erin L. 86 Comments

I’m not a great sleeper.

Part of that may be my kid’s fault, but I’ve never felt I get a particularly restful sleep. I wake up easily. Every noise seems to cause me to stir.

So when a former client emailed me to let me know of her newest venture, NZLavender, I was ALL about it. Relaxation! Calming properties! Sign me up.
New Zealand lavender field #NZlavender

I’m new to using lavender oil so I promptly did some research into how to use it. I googled. I asked around. I polled my friends.

5 ways to use lavender

1. Put it in your bath.
If you need a little extra help relaxing, put a few drops of lavender oil into your bath water. It can help support a peaceful state of mind.

2. Use to treat minor burns.
After running your burn under cold water for awhile, put a few drops of lavender oil directly on the burn. It helps with the healing process.

3. Use as a sleep aid
Rub a few drops on your hands then apply to your pillow (or your children’s pillows).

4. Eczema and other skin issues
Mix a few drops of lavender with coconut oil to treat skin issues like eczema and contact dermatitis.

5. Treat insect bites.
Apply lavender oil to a cotton ball and rub on itchy bug bites. (I cannot wait to try this over the summer. Mosquitos LOVE me.)

I’ve been putting lavender oil on my pillow every night for the past few nights and I definitely feel more relaxed! Next up is for me to buy a diffuser for my kid’s rooms.

I get an average of 4 hours of sleep a lot of nights because I have trouble falling and staying asleep, so I would use it for a sleep aid. I would also use it for baths, scenting, and other things, but that would probably be its main purpose for me.
