How often should you clean your car interior? (#refreshyourcar)

November 4, 2014 By Erin L. 63 Comments

I feel like I live in my car. Going to and from two different schools, play dates, and other activities means that I spend a lot of time in it, and so do my kids. So how often do I clean out the interior? Um. (Shrinks away embarrassed.)

I probably clean the outside of my car every few months. I occasionally get out the Windex and wipe down the fingerprints off the windows or grab a dust broom to get wipe down the dashboard. But really clean it? I honestly can’t even tell you. Maybe never. (I feel like I need a shower.)

Then I got an email from the #RefreshYourCar campaign folks asking if I wanted to check out their new line of antibacterial products for automobiles. And I thought about my car. I thought about all the goldfish and raisins that were stuck to the leather and the spilled juice and dirty hands, and old tissues and literally said out loud “SO GROSS!” and then I emailed back and said yes to the campaign. Talk about a breeding ground.

I just got a new car a few weeks ago and I am determined to keep this one in better shape than my old one. I already set up a crate in the trunk area full of my cleaning supplies, a roll of paper towels, baby wipes and more. So no matter the mess, I’ll always be prepared. (PS. I recommend keeping several plastic grocery  bags in your glove compartment in came of car sickness. I’m just saying.)

Refresh Your Car offers four different sanitizing antibacterial wipes in three different scents. They are the only EPA approved automotive products that clean, condition, sanitize and protect interior automotive surfaces. *Kills Staphylococcus Aureus (Staph) and Enterobacter Aerogenes.

As much as I wish they wouldn’t, my kids tend to eat snacks in the car. And there are sticky candies that have fallen to the floor & never gotten cleaned up. There was a soda that got spilled, and never totally cleaned up. And lots of dust, dirt & grime!

As if it’s not bad enough that of course my two year old leaves all sorts of gross things behind in the car lol. But honestly nothing, absolutely nothing compares to what my 245lbs St Bernard leaves behind after he rides anywhere with us!!! The slobber sleeks, puddles and all around muck makes you really wanna rethink having one of these. Of course though, i wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world, i just wish he’d come with his own cleaning personnel lol.

I have no idea what type of gross things are in our car. We desperately need to clean it but just haven’t/ I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some type of snack in there somewhere. My absolute gross is finding the sticky build-up in the car drink holders….which usually happens.
