A Letter to My Son on His Third Birthday

December 15, 2011 By Erin L. 7 Comments

My darling Wonderbug,

Oh how you’ve grown!  I cannot get my head around the fact that it’s been three years since you came into my life.  It seems like yesterday you were toddling around, muttering words and sounds.  Now you are a a full on boy who runs, jumps, sings, speaks in full sentences, asks questions and is constantly absorbing the world around you.

You spread such joy to those who know you.

You laugh contagiously.  You are starting to tell “tunny jokes.”  You love on your little sister and are so wonderful with her.  Your imagination is running away to far away lands of pirates, knights, and pretty princesses. You make us hide from bears and be quiet around the mean giant.  Every day is a new adventure.

Funny boy

I want to weep when I hear you sing.  That little voice is just so precious. Whether we’re singing “Old Macdonald”, “Row Row Row Your Boat” or “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”, I feel such joy that music makes you happy.  I hope it continues as you grow.  My favorite musical moments are those just before you fall asleep.  You look up at me and say “Sing the Rainbow and Sunshine songs mommy.” Then every couple of lines, you pipe in.  Most nights you are asleep way before I get to “why oh why can’t I?

And the dancing…oh the dancing.  You rock out every chance you get and dictate to whoever’s near — you play drums, you play cymbals, I play guitar. You may just be a musician when you get older.

Most signs of my first born baby have faded.  You smell different.  Your baby cheeks are almost completely gone.  There are no rolls of pudgy toddler.  You are my boy.  My sweet, sweet boy.

How has it been 3 years?

As much as I miss the days that have passed, I am loving the moments now.  Especially when you say “I love you mom” and throw those little arms around my neck. Heart melting.

I am excited to see what lies ahead for you this year.  I have big dreams for you my son and can’t wait to hear what your dreams are as you mature.

Have fun.  Play hard.  Stay sweet.

All my love,

Mama

Awww that is so sweet & brings tears to my eyes. And he will be able to read this when he is older & get a glimpse into what it was like through your eyes when he was just a very little boy : )
