Bug is just now getting to the age where he loves to pretend, which I totally adore. Given my fondness for theater, I am hoping that some of his typical imaginative play translates into a love of acting later.
We are constantly jumping on our boat (couch) to hide from the crocodiles and Captain Hook. And lately, he’s OBSESSED with Super Why. So we like to pretend to be Super A and run all over the house.
I loved pretending as a kid….everything from “you be the baby and I’ll be the mommy” to creating a classroom in my bedroom or playing store with Monopoly money. Even better? Dressing up in big people clothes or costumes to get into character.
Having a boy, I’m not sure how much dress up he’ll want to do other than his Super Cape, but I hope he does. I figure we can always use old Halloween costumes too.
Here in the Lane household, we do it right! Even mommy and baby sister get involved.

Hey Erin! Congrats on the new venture….looks great! I loved using all of my old dance recital costumes for dress up. Carly and I had about 6 years worth of combined costumes to choose from, so we had a huge trunk full. It was great. Some of them even translated into halloween costumes too!
My mom used to have these gray high heel boots and I loved to wear those around and pretend like I was a fancy lady when I was a little girl.
My favorite dress up memory was my mother wanting to help me win a costume contest at school, so she took a box, painted it, and made me into a top-loading washing machine. My head fit through the lid, and there were clothing sticking out, on my head, and an empty detergent container glued to the top, too. I would’ve won the contest most certainly if I hadn’t have been too chicken to wear it! I was too afraid to get made fun of, so I wore a pretty dress and pretended to be Barbie instead. My friend who decided to wear my costume? WON THE CONTEST! And I felt bad for letting down my mom after all her hard work. I learned a very important message that day – be yourself, and don’t concern yourself with what others think. Also, I really enjoyed helping make that with my mom, too. I try to do the same now with my children 🙂
How did I not know you had a new-ish ‘hood? Love it! 🙂
I am trying to think of a dress up memory and I keep coming back to masks. I know that sounds weird, but we were even older and my dad found these cheesy full-face/head masks somewhere and we forgot about them, but when we found them the whole family got into the act, my parents, too. And we all were in tears at how hilarious we all looked. That may only compare to when we used to wear my mom’s old wigs – why she had wigs, I have no idea, but G-d, it was hilarious. 😛 Thanks for giving me these flashbacks!
This is odd, but I don’t have a dress up memory. I think my brain may be in a fog. I do remember wearing my grandma’s rings when I went to her house to visit. I loved that. Love to enter your giveaway.
Not sure if I have a favorite dress up memory but I do have a very memorable one. In kindergarten we dressed as clowns for our kindergarten circus. I was a jump roper and the shorts I was wearing were too loose so when I started jumping they started falling down. I stopped to pull them up and every one laughed, they thought it was part of the show. I went off crying.

I used to teach preschool and when i was pregnant with my oldest the little girls in my class used to play “ms. jessica” and put little baby dolls under their shirts. It was so cute.

my favorite dress up memory was my little girls 6th birthday…
I snagged a sleeping beauty dress for her and we got long golden hair piece. she looked stunning and kept saying im so pretty mommy.. it was so sweet..

whoops i forgot to say it was her 6th birthday outfit..
Boys like to dress-up too! Benjamin has a trunk of costumes (big favorites: dragon costume and knight). And… somewhere I have a picture of a 5 or 6 yr old Jason wearing a costume (and it wasn’t Halloween).
My favorite dress up memory is my daughter dressed up like a princess. We went outside to play and she finds a blow away flower (that’s what she calls them) I asked her what she wishes for and she says “I wish I could be a lady bug for halloween and gordo (her little brother) can be superman” IDK about you ladies but that is hands down the best dress up memory 🙂
my favorite dress up memory is when i was a child, and my older sister and i went in my mom’s closet and dresses up with her clothes and sandals!

I remember dressing up as Wonder Woman – I had a yellow plastic encased jump rope which was my lasso. I wore a cap and ran around saying WONDER WOMAN and humming the theme song.
My fave memory is when my daughter was around 4 she would put on my wedding dress and shoes and walk down the aisle like she was getting married and I had to stand at the end dressed like her daddy. LOL
My favorite dress up memory is dressing my brothers up as little hobos for Halloween. Sure was fun!

I LOVED dressing up in my mom’s clothes when I was little. I would wear her cowboy boots, all her costume jewelry and cowboy hat, I was a cowboy princess!

For me personally it was when I was 5 and dressed up as the wicked witch, I went running around the house trying to scare people than saw myself in the mirror and started crying I scared myself so bad haha.
My favorite dress-up memory was with my kids when we played “stuff the fat man” last Halloween.
The person who is “it” gets to put on a giant shirt while everyone else gets to “stuff it”.
My great-grandmother (who kept EVERYTHING) had a closet full of wigs, dresses, shoes, and scarves. As a little girl, I loved dressing up and pretending to be different people. However, it was quite fun to dress up all of my pets too! I still have pictures of my cats wearing wigs and scarves. LOL
My favorite dress up memory is actually from last Halloween when I donned some of HC’s fairy wings and a silly purple scarf to match. HC was insistent upon me not being costume-less to go trick or treating so I literally grabbed those two things from the toy box and slapped on some sparkly purple eye shadow and pink lip gloss. Sound boring, I know, but HC to this day talks about how I was a magical fairy for Halloween last year and thinks it was SO cool that I wore her fairy wings. I love how the littlest things can make kids so very happy.

I loved dressing up in my piano recital dresses (my piano teacher had formal recitals). My mother usually made my dresses, and they were gorgeous! Very easy to put one on and pretend I was a princess. I also found some old dresses of my mother’s and would dress up in them. My great-grandmother had these amazing shimmery gold curtains she no longer used, and I would make evening dresses out of them. Hours of fun!
My little one is quite obsessed with Super Why too. He loves Alpha Pig 🙂
I don’t really recall dressing up that much as a kid, but I know we had different color masks that my brother would wear with his outfits. I would say my favorite dress up memory was in the second grade, I played the witch. My mom made me a cap and hat. I know in that class we did four plays but do not recall what else I was in the other stories. I guess the witch stuck

Ah Memories….my favorite was dressing up in my grandma’s pretty dresses, hats and jewelry from the 1930’s and 1940’s.
My favorite “dress-up” memory is not of myself, but of my 2 kids! They were 6 & 4 and we lived out in the country in an old farm house. We moved alot when they were little so they were very close & played together all the time. We had a utility building that we parked vehicles, equipment etc. in & also stacked up old moving boxes, empty soda & beer cartons. One day their Dad came driving in from work, & I was in the garden – they came running around the side of the house, each w/a ‘beverage box’ on their head! They were pretending to be “Storm Troopers” from Star Wars & all you could see was their eyes through the side of the box! It truly WAS funnier THEN than it sounds now as I write it out…. but they remember it too & talk about it every year when it comes time to start thinking about Halloween! ((1955nursehjc4me(at)myway(dot)com)) Thanks for the chance….
My favorite dress up memory was when my mom cut up a bunch of old pajamas, and my brother and I put them on as exercise gear. We wore headbands, arm bands, leg bands, etc. and ran around exercising. We were maybe 4 or 5 at the time. It was a blast!
When I was a kid my sister and I got a trunk full of dress-up dresses for Christmas from my grandma. It was awesome! Of course with little boys I now have little superheroes running around.

oh my gosh, my favorite dress up memory.. would have to be dressing up as Cinderella, i would dress up in my fancy little dress and high heels and i always thought i was something else! My poor daddy! lol
I remember when my oldest was a little younger and she dressed up and said, “I am super Mom just like you!” Made my day 🙂
I love to dress up in my moms old clothes and shoes
I loved dressing up like a princess!! But, now we have all boys…so this cape would be to much fun!! 🙂
My favorite dressup moment would have to be when my sister, brother and I would put towels on our head and hold them tight with a head band and pretend we were models with long flowing hair (yes, my brother actually did this with us) it was fun and hilarious…
My son loves to think he can go to school..on another note, I spend Fridays cleaning house while off with work with him. I cam out after telling him we would stay indoors and just chill and clean..he was in his CARS slippers w/ backpack and sun glasses on and swiffer cleaner in one hand/rag in the other so he can go to school at home and bring his cleaning stuff for show and tell!
I love watching my little granddaughters dress up like princesses – wearing whatever and everything they can find!

Growing up, my neighbor had a trunk full of dress-up clothes her kids used to use. There was a tiger mask I loved! My son is just starting to get into the idea of costumes, so this would be great!
One time myself and a group of friends had no money…so I told them to find me their odds and ends and I’d whip us all up some costumes…I ended being a Klingon, my friends were a pirate wench, a cyborg, a werewolf, a zombie, a skunk and a buffet table…every single one of us won money prizes that night…woot…it was a groovy fun night~!!! …heavensent1@yahoo dotcom

My favorite dress up memory is going to the Goodwill on a Monday when it was a tag sale. For 99 cents each, I got my daughter 4 real formal dresses. I brought them home and washed them up. I gave them to her and she freaked out! She was soooooo excited!!!! It was adorable. She immediately put them on and had such a fun time.

I remember dressing up actually in my dad’s work clothes as a really small kid, his big flannel shirt and suspenders. My mom still has the photos.
