I still believe the world is inherently good

I still believe the world is inherently good

I’ve been struggling these past few days, as I know we all have, to wrap my head around all that has happened. But the more I think about it, it’s just not going to happen.

Our world is no stranger to tragedy.

War.

Natural Disasters.

Disease.

All of these things cause hearts to break, spirits to be dissolved, lives to be devastated.

At times like this, we all look for somewhere to turn.  We need answers.

There are none to be had.

So we struggle, each day, to understand, to move on. But as many tears have been shed over the past few days, I still believe there is good in the world.

No.

I know there is good in the world.

It’s easy to ignore it, to get caught up in the evil that seems to lurk in every shadow.

But the light is there.

I see it in the hundreds upon hundreds of people who are wrapping these poor families in their hearts.

I hear it in my son’s laughter.

I feel it in the warmth that envelops me as I’m surrounded by those I love.

I pray for peace. I pray for all of us.

A letter to my son on his fourth birthday

My darling firstborn, It doesn’t seem possible that you are four years old. You are such a big boy now, yet still so very small.  I waited so very long for you to come into my life.  It seemed that day was always just out of reach.  I prayed so very hard. Now here you… [Read More]

Virtual Piggy: Helping parents manage their kids purchases online

December 12, 2012 By Erin L. Leave a Comment

Ah money! It’s such an important topic yet can be so challenging to teach your kids about. We are at the age where the Bug is just starting to semi-comprehend that things cost money.  When we go to Target, he usually asks or something and then we go down the road of “it’s  not on our… [Read More]

Les Miserables can’t come fast enough

December 10, 2012 By Erin L. Leave a Comment

I can’t wait for December 25. Not JUST because it’s Christmas, but because it’s the day that Les Miserables opens in theaters nationwide. My fondness for Les Mis runs incredibly deep within me. It was the first musical soundtrack I ever owned. I had it memorized within a week and went around singing Castle on… [Read More]

Sometimes your kids won’t like you

December 10, 2012 By Erin L. Leave a Comment

Most days you love me immensely. You throw your arms around my neck and squeeze and squeeze until I can’t breathe and I’m forced to unwrap your tiny body from mine. Most days I love YOU immensely. Your laughter, your wide-eyed smile, your singing, your dancing…all of it brings a grin to my face and… [Read More]

The most professional wine review you’ll ever see

December 7, 2012 By Erin L. Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago two more bottles of wine from California Wine Club showed up on my doorstep. Best. Delivery. Ever. We received two wines from Daniel Gehrs – a 2011 Chenin Blanc and a 2009 Merlot.  Daniel Gehrs is a small, family owned and operated winery featuring small lots of hand-crafted wines. . Rather than… [Read More]

A Healthier Holiday with the American Cancer Society {pumpkin bread recipe}

Every year the holidays roll around and as much as I love them, my body groans a little. It pretty much means six to eight weeks of non-stop eating.  We’re talking cookies, cakes, pumpkin bread, pies, and tons of butter, cream cheese and more.   What’s a girl to do? Eating healthy is a good… [Read More]

Feelings you didn’t know were there

Feelings you didn’t know were there

My daughter is 20 months old. Twenty months ago I was in labor.  I was in labor, then got stuck at 7cm only to realize that the cord was wrapped somewhere around her little body. Off to the operating room I went and one c-section later, my daughter was here. I didn’t get my VBAC,… [Read More]

Poop, pee, farts and nakedness: boys vs. girls

December 3, 2012 By Erin L. 10 Comments

I think I’m on a roll. Bodily functions seem to be a trend for me right now. Last week, I confessed to the world that I do, indeed, occasionally, you know, poop. Ballsy on my part, but hey, as I noted, everybody does it and it’s a pretty huge part of parenting. The Bug is… [Read More]

Where’s My Gold Star?

Where’s My Gold Star?

I’m pretty sure that I’m not getting the gold stars that I deserve.  Who’s supposed to be handing these things out anyway?
