Welcome to my new series, My City Monday, where every week I’m going to give you a little glimpse of life in the Raleigh-Durham area. I’ve lived here since 5th grade with the exception of four years for college. I attended Douglas Elementary, Carroll Middle and Sanderson High. I’ve worked for several companies here and am excited to raise my children in the area where I grew up.
There is so much of this city that is undiscovered. My hope is to introduce you to a few places you’ve never been or been meaning to try, as well as try a few new places myself. There will be a little something for everyone – playgrounds, restaurants, museums, family venues and clothing boutiques just to get us started.
And to get everyone in on the action, I encourage you to take photos of your favorite places in YOUR city and post them on Instagram with the hashtag #mycitymonday. I look forward to finding your city’s hidden gems.

Today I’m going to start by highlighting a part of town in which I spend A LOT of time – the Six Forks/Strickland Rd. intersection. I drop my children off at preschool and will often times head over to the Starbucks for a Grande Hazelnut Macchiato or a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino. It’s one of the few Starbucks in Raleigh that has a drive-thru.
If I can get my booty in gear, I’ll hit up the Finley YMCA for a Zumba class or the kids and I will head over to the pool for a family swim. After putting it off for a few years, we finally joined last summer and it’s been the best decision we’ve made.
Other mornings, I leisurely stroll through Whole Foods. It’s so awesome now that I don’t have to drive over to Wade Avenue for my favorite salad bar or cornbread (have you had it? Seriously, it’s like cake!) Other days I might hit up the Six Forks Station shipping center, which has Zest, my favorite Raleigh ladies lunch spot, and Milton’s Pizza, fabulous for a family dinner plus our most frequented Raleigh Chick-Fil-A.
What corner of the Triangle do you regularly frequent?
Next week, check out my thoughts on Gonza Taco Y Tequila.

Love this, Erin! And Christopher starts at Douglas this fall 🙂
Awww, that is so exciting! I loved going to a school I could walk to. I hope he loves it.
We’re all around the same area as you! And between kids’ camp, sports, the pool and working out, I pretty much live at the Y!
I love Zest. Next time you’re in, say hi to our friend James Castellow, head chef and co-owner!
I love this idea, can’t wait to see all the fun places you visit.
Thanks! I’ve been wanting to write more about Raleigh and figure this is a fun way to do it.
Love this new series! Zest is a favorite — especially for special gifts — and we are regulars at Milton’s. 🙂 Gonza is amazing — you’re going to love it. And we just checked out Relish for the first time (over on Creedmoor Road). I could eat there every day for the rest of my life. Except I’d gain 500 pounds from the homemade pimento cheese alone. 🙂
I LOVE Relish! Have you had their banana pudding? Amazing. Oh and their French Toast is to die for.
