I big puffy heart Katie Couric

August 8, 2012 By Erin L. 3 Comments

Other than loving on my friends (see Monday’s post) I had two other moments at BlogHer that made my heart happy.

One was Voices of the Year.  It’s the keynote where a panel picks the best of the best posts of the year and they are read to us by the author.  It is OUTSTANDING.  There is nothing like sitting in a room of people who appreciate writing for the sake of writing and hearing phenomenal, tear inducing, gut busting laughter causing writing.  I left on a high and ready to put pen to paper (or fingers to keys…whatevs.)

The other moment was listening to Katie Couric speak at her lunch keynote.  For those who don’t know, Katie is launching her own talk show in September called Katie.  It debuts September 10.  I had heard that she was doing this awhile back but it didn’t really stick with me.  I knew that I liked her, but I was never a big morning talk show girl nor did I watch her in primetime news.

Then on Saturday afternoon, she sat down with Lisa Stone and just talked to us.  It was … I’m not even sure how to put this….amazeballs.  I will totally DVR her show.  (What?  I have kids. There is no live tv for me.)

She talked about interviewing the big wigs, she talked about her husband, she talked about menopause. She spoke about the nanny who helped her raise her girls and talked about her love of spin class.  I literally hung on her every word and could have listened to her for hours.

My favorite sound byte was when she talked about women having it all. She said (I’m paraphrasing here) “I don’t like proclamations that “women can’t have it all.” We need to get beyond the culture wars, the mommy wars, and let every woman determine for themselves what is best for them and best for their families. No one asks Brian Williams, “How do you do it all?”

LOVE.

Thank you, BlogHer, for bringing her to us.

Here’s the promo for her new show…you know you’re going to watch. (You can tweet them at @KatieShow)
