No Sick Days If You Stay At Home

Last week Miss E. got the stomach bug and I came to a horrible conclusion…I can never get sick again.  Ever.

I had this image in my mind of the whole family being down for the count and me still having to run the household.  Ugg. Chalk that up to one thing I totally took for granted when I worked full-time.  If I got sick, the baby could still go to daycare so I was able to sleep and veg out on the couch as any sick person desires.

Staying at Home?  No can do.

Monday night, my husband came home feeling horrid.  After screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (in my head of course, not out loud) I promptly told him to sleep in the guest room.

I cannot get sick.

Luckily, he understood.  If he’s sick, I can quarantine him and keep the kids out of his hair. If I’m sick and am out of capacity, he’ll have to stay home and take a sick day to take care of the kids.  Not something he wants to do.

Luckily, it seems to have passed and he’s allowed back in his bed.

But seriously?  Totally blows to be sick and still have to occupy your kids.  I’ve had a few days where I’ve had mild migraines and managed, but there was a little more TV watching that day than I would like.

So what’s a family to do?  What do you do when mom gets sick?

The kids watch way too much TV when I’m sick. I’ve only been sick enough to have to manage things from the couch once or twice, though. (Knock on wood!)

[…] a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom, I’m quite aware of the fact that I don’t get any more sick days.  As much as I want to curl up on the couch and watch trashy TV and sleep on and off, that’s […]
