I’m back with a few new book recommendations for tweens. Needless to say, my 11 year old has been reading a lot over these past few week. He’s a big reader anyway, but given he has way more free time right now, he’s on a much faster track than normal.
Generally speaking, he’s a big fan of fantasy/sci-fi/quest type books, but he’ll read just about anything.
Here are what he’s read and loved in the first few months of 2020:
Grenade by Alan Getz – He was introduced to this author in school when his class read Refugee. He then found Allies and asked for this one for Christmas.
Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia – This is the first in a new series and he is eager for the second book to come out. It’s slated for an October release.
The List by Patricia Forde – I actually plan to read this one as the premise sounds really interesting. The world can only speak a language of 500 words. My son said it’s really good.
The Hypnotist trilogy by Gordan Korman – He still has one book to go, but loves everything that Korman writes.
Five Kingdoms series by Brandon Mull – He devoured this series after I got a recommendation from a friend. The author has a few other series so we’ll be adding those to our list.
The Unwanteds – He’s read the first two in the series, and I even read the first one. They are quite entertaining and have a bit of a Hunger Games/Harry Potter type vibe.
Ghost by Jason Reynolds – I bought this on a whim based on a reading list I came across. He read it in a day and said it was good story that focused on a runner on a track team.
Blackthorn Key – He’s currently on Book 3 of this series. He gives it 2 thumbs up!
