Looking for new books for elementary-aged kids? I’m back at you with a list of my son’s current favorites. Scroll down to the bottom to see what my 8-year old girl is into as well. (She finally got the reading bug. Hooray!)
Got a 9-12 year old? Here are my 10 year old avid reader’s latest book recommendations:
Ranger’s Apprentice Series – Stop the presses! We have a new favorite book series. Percy Jackson and Harry Potter have moved down on the list and John Flannagan’s Ranger’s Apprentice Series has taken the top spot. My son read all twelve books in the last 6 months and has ventured on to the follow-up series. You can buy the whole series on Amazon. *I read the first book, as did my husband. Highly recommend!
My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish – He stumbled upon these books at the school library and said they are hilarious.
Seven Wonders Series by Peter Larengis – My son loved the action in this series and said it’s a great mystery.
ReStart by Gordan Korman – This is one we read together, and both really enjoyed. It allowed for a lot of good discussion.
NERDS by Michael Buckley – This one was a Mama find. I came across Book 1 in the library and brought it home to him. He devoured them (there are five) in about a month.
The Five Elements – This is what he’s currently reading. He’s on Book 2, but we’ve already snagged Book 3 from the library.

The girl child has finally caught the reading bug and I couldn’t be more delighted. Over the past few months, she’s been obsessed with the following books for kids:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Because, of course. And the next one in the series comes out this fall; pre-order here.
“I Survived” Book Series – She’ll read one of these in one quick sitting.
Heidi Hecklebeck Series – Cute series about a witch!
Isadora Moon Series – She’s half vampire/half fairy!
Royal Academy Rebels – This is a new series that Em has been reading with her dad. Book 2 comes out in the fall. We can’t wait!
