The holiday season is upon us, which means there are several holiday theatrical productions to choose from in both Raleigh and Durham. I am a huge fan of live theater, and I want to get my kids interested in it as well.
The Triangle region offers a lot of wonderful opportunities to expose our kids to plays and musicals. So if you’re looking for something for the family to do in November and December, I’ve got some fantastic options:
Theater in the Park’s A Christmas Carol – a long-standing family favorite!
My favorite thing about Ira David Wood’s show is that even if the story is the same, there is something new every year to look forward to. This year, both father and son are playing Scrooge. Be sure to check the website to see who’s playing at which show.
Memorial Auditorium – December 5-9
DPAC, Durham – December 12-16
Raleigh Little Theater’s Cinderella
This has been on my list for several years. Maybe this will be the year we make it. I think my seven year old would love it!
Sutton Theater – November 30-December 16
Elf: The Musical
I don’t know much about this one, but we are huge fans of the movie. For that reason alone, I think it would make a great show.
DPAC, Durham – December 4-9
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – The Musical
I saw this with my mom and kids a few years ago and it’s really cute. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It’s based on the movie we all know and love.
Fletcher Opera Theater – November 23 – December 24
NC Theater’s Aladdin and His Winter Wish
I don’t know much about this one, but it is a holiday themed show based on the story of Aladdin.
Memorial Auditorium – November 27-December 2
I really wish I had the time and money to see all of these kid-friendly holiday shows over the next two months. I’m aiming for at least two. Hope to see you there!
