Being a stay-at-home mom is a wonderful thing. I love that I am able to be at home with my children. I love watching them grow and figure out things for themselves. But it’s definitely not as easy as I thought it would be. Most days are full of interruptions. There are days I can let the kids play, know they are in good spirits and all is well. I can drink my coffee without it getting cold and check things off my to-do list with ease. BUT….typically, that is not the case.
The bickering…OMG the bickering. Then it’s quiet. They play NICE. Together. It’s amazing. But SURPRISE -I walk into a room that has been hit by Tornado A.C.E. (That’s the first initials of each kid).
Here is a snapshot into my life as a SAHM.
Sometimes I set up an outdoor craft time with paint. I stay close to them unless I have to run inside to grab drinks, more supplies or use the bathroom. Within five minutes, they are sure to have painted their skin instead of the paper. It’s hilarious and hard to keep a straight face while reminding them the paint goes ON the paper.
There was the time that my littlest snuck out of her crib and stealthily tip-toed into the bathroom. She found my waterproof mascara and put it on. She was so proud at the masterpiece she had created. I smiled as I wiped her face with a baby wipe. (Here’s a secret: baby wipes take off waterproof mascara with ease!)
My little people come up with all sorts of fun ideas, like attempting to ride the laundry basket down the basement steps or coloring the floor with crayon. Because of these things, it can take me 2 hours to unload and reload the dishes into the dishwasher. And it goes without saying that grocery store trips with kids take FOREVER.
And then there is the laundry. It is NEVER done. There is always a full hamper ready to be washed or clothes sitting in the dryer begging for me to fold and put it away. Folding laundry with the kids around can be a lot of fun, just takes quite a bit of extra time.
Most of the time I look back at these moments and laugh. We have a great time together. These three little people are thick as thieves, creating lots of fun memories. I am so lucky to live in a time where I can click a photo at a seconds notice to capture these priceless moments. Plus, I get to experience the hilarious things they say and the random hugs they give on a daily basis. Being a stay-at-home mom is really amazing, but it’s the hardest 24/7 job ever.
