Looking for a new place for a date or a Girl’s Night Out? I have just the place. Gonza’s Taco Y Tequila is a wonderful Latin American place at the corner of Lead Mine and Sawmill Road in North Raleigh. The owner told me he hoped to create a fun cool Latino place where people could enjoy a good meal with friends and family.
He absolutely succeeded. The food is super yummy and the drinks are top notch.
A group of us hit up Gonza’s last Tuesday and made a reservation through Open Table. I highly recommend a reservation because this place is always packed and for good reason. When you arrive, you’ll be handed a bobble head while you wait for your table. We got Shrek!
We started off with drinks. The table got sangria, but I’d been craving a mojito so I stuck with my choice (and ended up having two!) We also ordered a side of guacamole to go with their complimentary chips and salsa. Both the salsa and guacamole were excellent.
Then it was on to the meal. I ordered the shrimp tacos. They are a new favorite of mine and Gonzas does them right.
A friend of mine ordered the snapper over coconut rice with some sort of salsa. It was lite, fresh, and the coconut rice paired with the salsa was the perfect salty/ sweet/ spicy combo.
Oh, and if it’s your birthday, make sure to tell your server. They’ll bring you a silly looking hat and a shot!
The best part about Gonza’s besides the great atmosphere and excellent food is the price. I had an amazing meal complete with two alcoholic beverages and it was only $42. That’s not bad considering half of that was the two mojitos.
I will absolutely be back and next time might even bring the kids. We’ll sit outside of course. It’s less messy that way.

LOVE that place! Definitely packed every night of the week so reservations are a good call! I always get the steak tacos. They’re fabulous.

I was gone last week when this came up. I have to try this place. I’ve been seeing it in my Instagram feed a lot. I just never get that far up in Raleigh.
