For the past year, I’ve heard references here and there about California Wine Club. I was always intrigued and intended to do some research, but, you know, I have kids so that just didn’t happen (ie. I forgot.)
But I finally had the chance to check them out and think it’s just a super cool concept. I was sent two wines from the Robledo Family Winery – a 2008 Sauvignon Blanc and a 2009 Tepranillo.
Unfortunately, I did not get to try the Tempranillo. My husband opened it one evening for dinner and the next morning, the bottle was empty! Thanks honey. Needless to say, he was a fan. He thought it was light and smooth with no heavy after taste. And while he typically prefers a heavier red like a Cabernet with pastas or meat, he would definitely drink this again if he was having a lighter meal.
I am a white wine girl. I normally prefer a lighter wine with a bit of sweetness. Rieslings are my favorite, but with food I typically have a Pinot Grigio. I don’t typically like dry wines, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the Sauvignon Blanc. I was pleasantly surprised. It has a nice texture with notes of citrus and lemongrass. I drank it alone, but I imagine it would go quite well with a fish dish.
California Wine Club has four clubs to choose from:
- Premier Club – Their most popular club. No membership fees, cancel anytime and all wines are 100% guaranteed. Shipments are $49.95 per month includes s/h, tax extra where applicable.
- Signature Series – For collectors and connoisseurs!
- International Selections – From small “mom & pop” wineries around the world.
- Aged Cabernet Series – Napa’s most prestigious Cabernets aged 8 – 12 years.
If you have any friends or family that enjoy wine, you should definitely check this out.

Tune in next month to see which two wines we get to try next. Hubby and I are going to do a video review. Come on, get excited.
This review was made possible by Mom Spark Media. Thoughts are my own. I received a 2 month Membership to the California Wine Club for the purpose of this review.

Ohhh video review! Great idea! I need to get better about describing wine. This is you, “notes of lemongrass”…and this is me “mmm…wine goood.”
Ba ha ha! I don’t normally have any idea what I’m talking about but I had read the notes a few days prior so when I “finally” tried it (post thawing) I could definitely tell.
