7 Years and No Itch for Me

by Erin L. on October 23, 2011

Seven years ago, I married my best friend.  We stood before God and our family and friends in a beautiful church here in Raleigh and then partied the night away.  It was sheer perfection.

Lane Wedding

Our celebration started yesterday as we dropped the kids off at my mom’s.  She and my sister graciously offered to take them over night so we could have a true celebration complete with a FULL NIGHT’S SLEEP.

First we hit up a local park and took a short hike.  It was a beautiful day and we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air.

Umstead Park

We then hit up Sullivan’s for the most fabulous meal.  I had a filet with Cabernet goat cheese butter and horseradish mashed potatoes.  We’re talking heaven on a plate.  And that was before they brought out the Banana Foster Bread Pudding.

We woke up this morning (after a blissful 8.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep) and hit up a local breakfast place for coffee and pumpkin pancakes.  Ok, I had pumpkin pancakes; the hubs had an omelette.

The best part of the whole “alone” time?  Just talking.  We reminisced about the past 13 years we’ve been together.  We talked about trips, parties, silly things and sad things.  It was awesome to see his face light up and say “Oh!  Remember when…”  It gets so crazy with the kids; how nice to simply enjoy each other.

There’s been no seven year itch (although studies now show it’s the THREE year; how sad!).  I am as happy now as I was on this day seven years ago.

It’s a different kind of happy. We’ve both changed.  Our family has grown.

Things are different. LIFE is different, but my love remains steadfast.

I know how lucky I am.

For that, I am grateful.

I have no idea how I got here…but it was sweet to read of your continuing love affair. I lived in Raleigh for 10 years, had both of my children there and thought I was building a life with my husband too. He had other plans and another woman and I’ve chosen to not remarry…but it doesn’t mean that I don’t love hearing how it can and should be. Congratulations!
